January is the one month that I’m always glad to see over. It’s cold, dark, dreary, everyone’s broke and we’re all under pressure to reinvent ourselves and sign up for half-marathons. I’ll stick with any other month of the year, thank you very much. A six-week gap until payday meant that I’d have to put off any sprees in Boots, but it also meant that I found some hidden gems in my makeup storage that I’d forgotten about. Here’s to the official end of winter and start of spring – hello February – who’s with me?!
Dry, dehydrated skin can be inevitable in the colder months, especially for someone who skips moisturiser regularly *raises hand shamefully*. But since Pestle & Mortar Hyaluronic Serum landed on my doorstep, my skin hasn’t looked better. I’ll have a full review up next week, but to put it simply my skin drinks this stuff up – I could see and feel results within a week. My skin is smoother, plumper and brighter, all thanks to this little bottle.
I couldn’t totally banish myself from picking up any makeup during the month, so when I saw Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade for under €12, I couldn’t resist. The HD brow is in your hands with this pot – it’s good eyebrows in a tub. I’m still getting the hang of applying it, so it takes time, but the result is definitely worth it. (There’ll be a full review up this week – so stay tuned!)
I wrote a whole post about Harmony blush by MAC earlier in the month, and I haven’t gone a day without using it since. I never would have thought of using a blush to contour before, but this colour is perfect for creating killer cheekbones. It’s really quick and easy to use, just a sweep with the Real Techniques Contour Brush and you’re good to go.
I’ve only read a few chapters of Pretty Honest, but all it took was a few pages for me to fall in love. It’s jam packed full of information and tips on beauty, skincare and makeup, and is really easy and enjoyable to read. Perfect for a lazy Sunday morning or dipping in and out of throughout the week.
Matte blushes just haven’t been cutting it for me this month, so I turned back to my ol’ reliable – NARS Orgasm. The rose-pink colour with flecks of gold shimmer makes a huge difference to a tired, pale face and makes you look like you’ve slept for ten hours, even when you haven’t.
Nothing says fancy like Chanel on your toes – am I right? I’ve been using Chanel Rouge Noir varnish on my nails all month. The deep red colour goes with everything and the formula is really long lasting, meaning I can wear something from Chanel every single day. Now that I can get used to.
My love for Charlotte Tilbury makeup is no secret, so when I heard that Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in East End Snob was a dupe for her Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk, I had to get my hands on it. I’ve never tried the Lip Cheat, so I can’t compare the two, but the creamy formula and gorgeous colour of this liner is enough for me. It looks great on it’s own to fill in the lips, as a liner to enhance the lips or under lipstick for longevity. I’ll definitely have to pick up more of these.
What have your favourites been for the month? I went shopping on Friday and can already tell that so many of the products will be in February’s favourites!
