The Best Investment – Great Lengths Extensions

I’ve mentioned Great Lengths extensions in my posts a few times, and after getting my second set in last week I thought it was time that I wrote a post on them. I first got Great Lengths in before Christmas after doing research on them online and seeing that So Sue Me, Mischa Barton, Eva Longoria, Catherine Heigl, Heidi Klum, Miley Cyrus, Hilary Duff, Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens all wore Great Lengths extensions.  Considering that all of these gorgeous celebrities have amazing hair, seeing that they wore Great Lengths extensions was a seller for me.

The picture above on the left shows my hair after getting my first set of Great Lengths removed. As you can see, my hair is quite fine towards the ends. For years I wore clip-in extensions, but they were such a hassle and weren’t really suitable for everyday wear. If my hair was thicker, clip in extensions would be perfect for extra length for nights out, but with my hair being thin I wanted to have thicker hair 24/7. I took Viviscal tablets for nine months which encouraged hair growth and really improved the condition of my hair, yet it wasn’t as thick as I would have liked.

When I started college last September I realised that clip-in extensions weren’t convenient for everyday wear, and to be honest I didn’t feel confident with my natural hair as it was, so I started researching good ‘stay in’ extensions. I had finally realised that now matter how many hair treatments I do or growth tablets I take, my own natural hair will never be as thick as I want it to be. I had heard horror stories about glue-in extensions and bonds, and knew from the beginning that I didn’t want them as they would more than likely damage my hair. I knew that I didn’t want to be stuck wearing extensions for my whole life, so when I came across Great Lengths, I knew they were the one!

Great Lengths extensions do not damage your hair and are applied to the hair with a keratin bond, which is designed to mimic the molecular structure of human hair. The bond is tiny and hardly noticeable. Whenever I tell people that I have extensions in, they can’t believe it. And when I go to show them the bond, they can hardly see it. That means you can tie up your hair and wear it however you want and the bonds won’t show. Great Lengths extensions are human hair, so they are super soft and blend in with your own hair and can be heated and styled any way at all.

My first set of extensions lasted six months. I got 100 pieces of hair at 40cm each. When six months had passed, the bonds has grown down three or four inches as my hair naturally grew. I was worried about my hair breaking as the weight of the hair pulled it from the root, yet as you can see from the picture my hair wasn’t damaged at all. It was thicker and healthier at the root, which is amazing. The ends of my hair were still quite thin, but they were like that before the extensions were put in.

The extensions don’t tangle at all, and wash and dry like normal hair. I can’t feel the extensions in my head and often forget they’re there! They are pricey however, but the prices vary depending on the length and amount of hair you want. When I got my first set in I swore that it was a once-off thing, yet when it came to getting them out I just had to get another set in! Considering that I wear them every single day for six months, I think it’s a pretty good deal. The confidence they have given me is incredible, I’m so so glad that I got them in.

My natural hair colour isn’t as bright as the extensions, but every few months I go back and get the colour done to match them. As you can tell from the picture on the right, my roots are much darker than the ends of the extensions but I’m going back next week to get the colour matched. So, if within the six months of wearing the extensions you decide to make a few changes to your natural hair colour, you can.

It’ll be around Christmas when this set of extensions has to be removed, but by then I hope that my own thicker hair will have grown down, so I’ll only need 75 or 50 pieces in my hair by then! If you’re planning on getting any extensions, I would 110% recommend Great Lengths. I have no complaints about them whatsoever. Only three bonds fell out over the six month period, and there was very little shedding apart from the natural shredding of my own hair.
