The Skincare Revamp

Although I just posted a skincare routine a few weeks ago, major breakouts and redness in my skin left me no other choice than to revamp my skincare routine. My skin had gotten so bad that I didn’t even like the thought of going out without wearing makeup, and that’s not like me at all. I realised that I must be missing something or doing something wrong in my skincare routine, so I popped to Kiehl’s to pick up some new products and hopefully find something to cure my skin problems.

The lady I was talking to at Kiehl’s was so so helpful and did a skincare test on me to see the oiliness/dryness of my skin. I was talking to her for about twenty minutes about my skincare and what I use on my face, and I learned so much from it. The customer service was amazing, and although Kiehl’s products are expensive, I found that it was really worth it.

I discovered that my forehead is quite oily and my cheeks are quite dry – which was totally news to me! I’ve really gone back to basics with what I use, and am determined to calm down the blemishes, redness and scarring in my skin. My skin is not by any means terrible, but it is in no way as good as I want it to be.

So, this is my new skincare routine. I will report back with results and reviews in a few weeks time – wish me luck!

Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm is my favourite cleanser of all time, but I was sad to hear from the lady at Kiehl’s that it may be too rich for my skin or that I might not be removing all of the product off my face. I don’t believe that the cleanser has broken me out or worsened my skin, but I’m only going to use it as a pre cleanse from now on in the hope to improve the condition of my skin! I’m then using Bioderma Micellar Solution to make sure I’ve removed every single trace of makeup. On days that I don’t wear makeup I just use this and skip the cleansing balm. I then use Clinique Clarifying Lotion as a toner. Then, this is where the good stuff comes in, I use Kiehl’s Powerful Strength Line Reducing Concentrate. ‘Line reducing?!’ I hear you say, but bare with me. I’m not using this product for its line reducing properties, rather for its high vitamin C concentration. With continued use, this product is said to improve the appearance, texture and radiance of the skin – exactly what I need. My skin can look dull and tired at times so I can’t wait to see the results. I use one pump of this one my face morning and night. In the mornings I then use Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defense. Protecting the skin from the sun is so important, and seeing as my skin is sensitive it is even more important to include it in my skincare routine. This SPF 50 is oil-free, so it won’t break me out. It’s really light weight and I hardly know it’s there under makeup. I got a free sample of Kiehl’s Skin Brightening Exfoliator, which I can’t wait to try twice a week. Every second morning and night I use La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo [+], which I regret to say I’m not too impressed with – but I’m hanging on in there as I’ve heard so many success stories.

I use the same routine morning and night, apart from not using Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm in the mornings and not using a SPF at night. I’ve put all of my other skincare products on hold at the minute, so fingers crossed this works. I’ll be introducing and swapping products as the weeks go on, so I’ll be sure to keep you posted here.

What are your skincare saviours? Please leave them in the comments below, I’d love to hear!

Kiehl’s is definitely good and Clinique as well. You really to try something for a time to see how it works on you , unless you get immediately problems as you said above.
Personally I had problems a long time to find something for my eyes as it very difficult because I suffer from psoriasis .
I tried Christian Bretton products just to see how they work on me and now I don’t dare to change them!
Just an advice ; don’t buy immediately the normal size , ask for a sample ( I know it is a nightmare to get one!) but sometimes there are some good employees out there! It will save you money if the product doesn’t work.

Thank you so much for the long and helpful comment Evelen! I haven’t heard of Christian Bretton, I must look into them! That’s great advice, nothing is worse than when you buy expensive products and they do nothing for your skin! x

I’ve been thinking about trying Kiehls products for a while now. Currently using the Ole Henriksen Fresh start eye cream and Lush’s Vanishing cream face moisturizer. Both have some wonderful, organic ingredients with a minimum amount of synthetic stuff. They have been great in keeping my skin looking clear, healthy and glowing! But now that summer is approaching, I’m on the lookout for a lightweight, yet moisturizing face cream with SPF

ooh I must give them a try! I love trying new skincare, haven’t found anything that has worked wonders for my skin yet. The Kiehl’s SPF is great, i’m really loving it so far. it’s a bit on the pricey side though, i’m sure there are drugstore versions that do the same thing!x
