Who knew that ‘Share a Smile Sundays’ shortened down to SASS?! I didn’t, but I love it! Today’s post is all about being happy. Sometimes being happy can feel almost impossible to achieve, but incorporating a few steps into your everyday life can really help to make you as happy as you can be on that day. Some days you might be happier than others, because some days are just better than others. I always try to be as happy as I can be on any given day, but things don’t always go to plan, so here’s a few things that always help to lift my mood on the less-happy days.
Don’t depend on anyone else for your happiness
It’s too easy to link up your emotions with somebody else’s, especially when they’re really close to you or you spend a lot of time with them. Your happiness is, to an extent, in your hands so try not to let other people’s actions take drastic effect on how you feel. This is one of the best things that I’ve learned recently when it comes to happiness, and it really helps.
Do what makes you happy
As simple as it sounds, this is one of the best things you can do to improve your happiness. If going for a run, reading a magazine or just having a cup of tea makes you happy, then do it, and do it as much as possible. Taking time to do things you actually enjoy can make the world of difference on how you feel, although I’m not saying to go out and spend a fortune on clothes everyday if that makes you happy – but you catch my drift, right? 😉
Don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle
This is one of my favourite quotes, and every time I think of it, it really puts things into perspective. Not one person’s life is the same as another’s, so try not to compare your life with anyone else’s. ‘Comparison is the thief of joy’ is another quote I love, and really it explains it all. Everyone is at different stages in their lives, so try not to look at someone else’s life and wish your life was like theirs, you never know how it feels to walk in someone else’s shoes, and if you’re going through a rough patch your good times will come too.
Choose happiness
If anyone told me to just ‘be happy’ when I’m feeling down, chances are I’d punch them in the face. Not really, violence is bad, but you know what I mean. Being happy isn’t as simple as throwing your problems out the window, or just pushing your other feelings to the back. But something that I try to do everyday is wake up and say ‘today I choose happiness’. As cheesy as it sounds, it really helps to set you in a positive mindset for the day. You are in control of your emotions, so if you feel yourself getting upset or angry over something not worth your time, try to push past it and choose happiness instead.
I hope these tips help anyone who’s going through a tough time, or anyone who simply wants to be happier. And who wouldn’t want to be happier, right?!
