Current Obsession | Revlon Lip Products

It all started with a lip butter. A pink, reddy toned colour that changed my views on lip products for ever. Yes, it is possible to wear colour during the day and, yes, it is possible to have moisturised lips for more than two minutes. The moment I tried Revlon’s Colourburst Lip Butter in Berry Smoothie (bottom right), I knew it was the start of something great. Fast forward a few months, and a trip to Boots ends up with me buying into a 6for4 deal, not just 3for2, as I couldn’t decide what shades to buy in the new Colourburst Matte and Lacquer  balms. Oops.

The thing that I love about Revlon lip products is that there is so much choice, they have great formulas and they are really affordable. Maybe that’s not such a good thing for my purse, but they sure do look pretty. Here are my favourite lip products that I’ve tried – something tells me they won’t be the last ones I’ll buy.

Top row left to right:

Colourburst Matte Balm in Elusive – I’m quite wary of matte lip products as I amn’t a fan of dry lips and hate when the product settles into my lips. These Matte Balms, however, aren’t drying at all (yay!). I love the rosy pink colour of this balm and the creamy formula makes it a total winner. This has really good lasting power and survived a whole Ron Pope concert, and the colour didn’t settle into the lines on my lips at all. Plus, the minty smell is a nice bonus.

Colourburst Lacquer Balm in Coquette – When I saw swatches of this colour online, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t get excited. You can’t go wrong with a bright, light pink with tiny bits of shimmer, right? The lacquer balms are shinier and more buttery than the matte balms (obviously) and also have great lasting power. The colour is quite sheer, but is buildable. The shiny packaging of these balms makes them even more attractive – nice one Revlon 😉

Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in Pinkissimo – There was a time when I totally avoided using lip glosses as I hated their sticky, gloopy feel and was sick of getting my hair caught when it was windy outside. Safe to say, lip gloss formulas have changed since then. This is a really rich sheer pink with tiny bits of shimmer that looks great over a nude lipstick. The formula is thick and for lack of a better word, juicy. It isn’t sticky or gloopy at all, although getting my hair caught is still inevitable. The gorgeous colour really makes it worth it, though.

Colourburst Lip Butter in Raspberry Pie – I never would have dared to wear a raspberry colour during the day before I found this lip butter. It simply wasn’t worth it: Within ten minutes it would have rubbed off and left me with a very attractive (not) raspberry ring around my lips. But this lip butter made it all possible. A purple, raspberry colour that is buttery (it’s all in the name), and can be applied a few times until the desired opacity is reached makes it a firm favourite in my makeup bag. There’s no need for a mirror or lip liner with these lip butters, it’s as easy to apply on the bus as it is in front of the mirror at home.

Bottom row left to right:

Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Honey – This was the first ‘lip crayon’ I ever used, and is my favourite to this day. It’s the first colour I turn to for any occasion, day or night. The fawn colour is something I never would have thought of wearing before, but is a really nice alternative to nude lipsticks. The colour is buildable and easy to apply, once again.

Colourburst Lacquer Balm in Whimsical – This balm is identical in every way to Coquette, apart from the colour. It’s a deep red-toned purple with visible bits of shimmer in it. The shimmer doesn’t come across glittery, though, it just gives a nice shine to the lips.

Colourburst Lip Gloss in Peony – This colour is really similar to NARS Super Orgasm lip gloss, I think. It’s a coral-toned baby pink with speckles of gold glitter. The formula is really moisturising, and isn’t sticky or tacky. I’ve loved using this lipgloss on it’s own or under a nude lipstick, the effect is really nice both ways. I’ve a feeling more of these lip glosses are going to creep into my collection…

Colourburst Lip Butter in Berry Smoothie – The amount of product shown in the picture is all that’s left of this lip butter, a true testament to how much I love it. It’s the perfect pink colour that looks good on any occasion, if I may say so myself. Like Raspberry Pie, the formula is really moisturising and creamy, and the colour doesn’t wear off easily. I’m definitely going to repurchase this ASAP!
