Soap and Glory Thick & Fast Mascara Review

I’d never think of heading to the Soap and Glory makeup stand in Boots, although it’s first place I go to when I’m looking for body butters and scrubs. I actually got this mascara as part of the Yule Monty gift set, that included body butters, scrubs and other things worth €72, all for €32. I even had to carry it home in a plastic sack on the bus because it was so big, but it was totally worth it.

Maybelline is usually the brand I turn to for mascaras, but Soap and Glory is battling for first place with this amazing Thick & Fast mascara.

It lifts, separates and elongates eyelashes in one swoop. I’ve never tried a mascara that applies mascara so thick and fast (geddit?) While some people hate the *spider-eyelash* look, I’m a fan and I really love the effect this mascara gives. It lifts my eyelashes all day long and doesn’t flake or smudge, even on bottom lashes. The brush is quite thick and big, which makes it hard to apply to corner lashes without getting blobs all over your face, but I usually do that anyway so I don’t mind too much. The advantage of the big brush is that it grabs and coats every eyelash quickly.

Three coats

The formula is quite gloopy and wet, there’s no time for sneezing with this baby. If you keep a concealer and earbud with eye makeup remover on hand though, there’s no need to fear. After one coat, my eyelashes were lifted, thickened and lengthened. The second coat added more thickness and length, but by the third coat my eyelashes became too thick for my liking and started to feel slightly crispy. While I don’t like my eyelashes looking too thick during the day, this would be perfect for a more dramatic night-time look.

Gloopiness and wetness aside (sounds lovely, I know), I really love this mascara. It gives good results fast and lasts all day long. I’ve never tried a mascara that gives the effect that this one does in one coat, and although it’s slightly messy, it’s totally worth it for me. If you have a more steady hand than me and are more patient than I am, you probably won’t encounter the messiness that I do.

If you’re looking for a new drugstore mascara, I’d definitely recommend giving this one a go. You can really control the effect you want with this, from a more natural look for day to more dramatic look for night. I’ve heard good things about a Soap and Glory concealer and eyebrow pencil, so I’ve a feeling that Soap and Glory is going to be a new favourite drugstore brand!
